National online database helps narcotics officers locate meth labs and put away offenders
DALLAS, September 14, 2006 – The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and ITT Industries Night Vision (ITT) selected finalists from 100 entries to receive recognition during the October 2006 IACP Conference for efforts in Community Policing. A finalist in the population 50,001 – 100,000 category was the North Little Rock, Arkansas Police Department, for their anti-meth program utilizing LeadsOnlabs.
According to ITT, the finalists “demonstrate the meaningful change that can occur when law enforcement officials and their communities are empowered to utilize all available resources for crime prevention.”
The North Little Rock Police Department pioneered the deployment of LeadsOnlabs in Arkansas. The Department’s efforts led to an immediate reduction in the number of illegal psuedoephedrine purchases, a significant increase in busts of meth labs across the state, and the arrest of repeat meth offenders.
The City of North Little Rock deployed LeadsOnlabs’ MethMonitor to enable real-time enforcement of purchase limits according to Act 256 and the Federal Combat Meth Act. MethMonitor provides statewide narcotics investigators with real-time information about suspicious purchases of products containing ephedrine and psuedoephedrine.
LeadsOnlabs receives data from pharmacies via real-time technology, providing law enforcement with accurate and timely suspect tracking information. Pharmacies benefit from instant notification of customers attempting over-the-limit purchases of meth precursors, which helps stores avoid these types of sales and meet state and federal compliance mandates – all at no charge to pharmacies.
LeadsOnlabs operates a national database operating on a similar concept to its sister company LeadsOnline, the nation’s largest online investigative tool for law enforcement. LeadsOnline allows officers to rapidly comb millions of transaction receipts from pawn, secondhand and Internet (eBay) drop-off stores across the country, looking for suspects and stolen property. Investigators use the LeadsOnline service to obtain critical leads from thousands of stores in 48 states to solve crimes ranging from burglary to homicide, arson, identity theft and narcotics crimes.
